Hey Little Ant

The other day we got to watch a story called 'Hey Little Ant' written by Phillip Hoose. This was a persuasive text about a little ant trying to convince a BIG boy not to squash him. We REALLY enjoyed the story because it was sung to us! Afterwards we got into quite a debate as to whether or not the little ant should have been squashed! In the end about one third of T4 believed that the little ant should have been squashed and two thirds believed he should have been saved......what do you think?

Reasons Why The Boy Wanted to Squash the Ant
Reasons Why the Ant Believed He Should Live
-          Ants are too tiny to feel so it won’t hurt the ant anyway
-          No one would care if my foot came down
-          Mum says ants are rude they steal chips and all the food
-          All his funs squash ants everyday it’s a game they play

-          He was just heading home with a crumb to feed his family.
-          The boy is a giant and he doesn’t know what it feels like to be an ant….but they aren’t so different.
-          His nest mates need him because he is big and strong and he feeds baby ants too.
-          He is not a crook…one little crumb will feed his whole town
-          If you were me and I were you what would you want me to do?

It is like the movie "The Ant Bully". Only the ants shrink the little boy and take him to their colony so he can learn how to be an ant.
