Suprise Visitor

Look who decided to fly into our classroom while we were out for BluEarth! We were pretty excited to find a real life magpie in our class room! Mrs M  said Magpies are fine...as long as they are the birds, not the footballers! She caught him so we could have a closer look before letting him go!

Hey Little Ant

The other day we got to watch a story called 'Hey Little Ant' written by Phillip Hoose. This was a persuasive text about a little ant trying to convince a BIG boy not to squash him. We REALLY enjoyed the story because it was sung to us! Afterwards we got into quite a debate as to whether or not the little ant should have been squashed! In the end about one third of T4 believed that the little ant should have been squashed and two thirds believed he should have been saved......what do you think?

Reasons Why The Boy Wanted to Squash the Ant
Reasons Why the Ant Believed He Should Live
-          Ants are too tiny to feel so it won’t hurt the ant anyway
-          No one would care if my foot came down
-          Mum says ants are rude they steal chips and all the food
-          All his funs squash ants everyday it’s a game they play

-          He was just heading home with a crumb to feed his family.
-          The boy is a giant and he doesn’t know what it feels like to be an ant….but they aren’t so different.
-          His nest mates need him because he is big and strong and he feeds baby ants too.
-          He is not a crook…one little crumb will feed his whole town
-          If you were me and I were you what would you want me to do?

Our First Post!

Hi there, we are super excited to be making our first ever post on our brand new class blog! We have had a busy start to year two and three and have learnt SO MUCH already! In Science this week we have been investigating the human body, and we are seriously loving this topic!

We began by discussing all the things we already knew about the human body. We found that we knew plenty about the outside of our bodies....but not much about our insides! Next, we made a list of all the things we wanted to find out this term about the human body. Mrs M was really impressed with some of the questions we came up with! Check out Connor, Abby and Charli's KWL charts.....

After this, we had a chat about our five senses. Did you know that we have five senses to help us learn about our world? These are:
  • The sense of sight
  • The sense of smell
  • The sense of touch
  • The sense of taste
  • The sense of sound or hearing
We decided to take a closer look at the human eye and found it pretty exciting! We watched an interesting video clip for closer look at how the eye works, check it out!

Here are ten interesting facts we found out about our eyes:

1) Eyes are composed of more than 2 million working parts
2) The average person blinks 12 times per minute - about 10,000 blinks in an average day
3) Eyes can process 36,000 bits of information every hour.
4) Only 1/6th of the eyeball is exposed to the outside world
5) Eyelashes have an average life span of 5 months.
6) The eyeball of a human weighs approximately 28 grams.
7) Your eye will focus on about 50 things per second.
8) About half of our brain is involved in the seeing process. Humans are very much visual animals.
9) Under the right conditions, the human eye can see the light of a candle at a distance of 14 miles.
10) The external muscles that move the eyes are the strongest muscles in the human body for the job that they have to do. They are 100 times more powerful than they need to be.

We just can't wait for the next lesson!
